Multi-Trait Selection Index for Superior Agronomic and Tuber Quality Traits in Bush Yam (Dioscorea praehensilis Benth.)

نویسندگان

چکیده

Dioscorea praehensilis Benth. is a semi-wild yam species and valuable source of resistance trait genes. To access the agronomic tuber quality performance, eleven quantitative phenotypic traits were used to discriminate identify promising accessions among 162 D. collected in Ghana. Significant high genetic variability (p < 0.001) for all was found evaluated accessions. Moderate broad-sense heritability (H2) (30–60%) observed except response YMV hardness. The clustered into three groups; each cluster displayed genotypes with good potentiality different evaluated. Path coefficient analysis revealed positive contributions 0.01) number tubers per plant, length, width, stem internode internodes, flesh hardness total weight plant. Through multi-trait genotype–ideotype distance index (MGIDI), 24 identified from as top-ranking could be progenitors introgression. results this study provide insight future breeding improvement programs West Africa.

Simultaneous Selection for Seed Yield and Agronomic Traits in Sunflower

Selection of high yielding genotypes is very important in sunflower. Thus, 24 new sunflower hybrids along with Golsa cultivar were evaluated in a simple lattice design (5×5) with two replications in the Agriculture Research Station of Gorgan, north of Iran, during 2020. The genotype by yield × trait (GYT) biplot method was used in order to study the relationships between different traits and to...

Harnessing modern biotechnology for tropical tuber crop improvement: Yam (Dioscorea spp.) molecular breeding

Yams (Dioscorea spp.) constitute a staple food crop for over 100 million people in the humid and subhumid tropics. They are polyploid and vegetatively propagated. The Guinea yams, Dioscorea rotundata and D. cayenensis, are the most important yams in West and Central Africa where they are indigenous, while D. alata (referred to as water yam) is the most widely distributed species globally. The g...

Facing herbivory on the climb up: Lost opportunities as the main cost of herbivory in the wild yam Dioscorea praehensilis

Plants with simple architecture and strong constraints on their growth may offer critical insights into how growth strategies affect the tolerance of plants to herbivory. Although Dioscorea praehensilis, a wild yam of African forests, is perennial, both aerial apparatus and tuber are annually renewed. Each year, the tuber produces a single stem that climbs from the ground to the forest canopy. ...

Selection of Barley Superior Lines with Desirable Agronomic Characteristics Using the Selection Index of Ideal Genotype (SIIG)

This study was conducted to investigate the phenotypic diversity of 108 pure barley lines in Augment design with four controls in six blocks in the farm of Darab Agricultural Research Station (2020-2021). In order to select the best lines in terms of yield and other traits, SIIG index was used. The results of restricted maximum likelihood (REML) analysis showed that the lowest and highest level...

Comparative Evaluation of Physico-chemical Characteristics of Flours from Steeped Tubers of White Yam (Dioscorea rotundata Poir), Water Yam (Dioscorea alata L.) and Yellow Yam (Dioscorea cayenensis Lam)

The study examined Yam Tuber Species (YTS), Tuber Steeping Duration (TSD) and Flour Particle Size (FPS) as factors of flour. Data were collected using white yam, water yam and yellow yam steeped in water (30 ± 2 °C, pH 6.78) and withdrawn, and the flour classified, and analyzed for each parameter. Results obtained showed that all the test parameters, Water Retention Capacity (WRC), Swelling Ind...
